Sexless Marriage… He Spent $10,000 on the Trip. Nothing Happened.

A guy named Travis wrote in after the most expensive five nights of his marriage.

Eleven years married. Nothing in the bedroom since Christmas. So for their anniversary he planned all of it himself. Five nights in Cabo. Adults only resort, ocean view room, couples massage, dinner on the beach. Her mom kept their daughter. Just over ten thousand dollars.

Nothing happened. Not once. On night three she patted his arm and said, "Can we please not make this whole trip about that." When they got home she told him, "I don't know what you expected."

Now his buddy says he should have gone bigger. Take her to Italy. And part of Travis thinks he's right, and the other part never wants to plan another thing for her again.

Both of those are built on the same wrong explanation. It was never about the trip being romantic enough.

In this one I break down why changing the setting couldn't touch a problem that lives between two people, not inside a house. Why a trip loaded with expectation becomes a pressure event, and why pressure shuts desire off even when everything else is perfect. Why I still tell men to plan the surprise trip in my book, and the one line most guys skip. The covert contract underneath the money. And what actually moves a dead bedroom, which is a lot more boring and a lot more effective than a plane ticket.

I'm not a therapist. I'm a guy who's been in this and has talked with thousands of men who are in it right now.
